Do you know what patch(s) implemented the fix? Or at least which
component to look in? (frameworks/av/ doesn't see to have any fixes for
this.)

If it's reasonable straight forward for me to hack things together on my
machine, it would be good to do so to verify that things will be OK once
we get 4.2, rather than finding out afterwards that there are still
problems...

It seemed to be straight forward. Only this config file is needed to be placed in /system/etc/ folder and right decoder was getting detected. I have verified it on origen.
