A while back I was interested in reviving the work Maxim did. I had a
good chat with him on the topic to see where things were at and why he
had not continued. His reply was that HW support was lacking and
there wasn't a lot of motivation from manufacturers to produce devices
that would support it.
That was about 2 or 3 years ago - things may have changed.
