repo --trace sync -j1 -n
seems to help...
Paul, is this a manifestation of the usual git issue?
i think it is better to update git with latest version Git v1.8.0 Released. hackbox.linaro.org has below git version $ git --version git version 1.7.0.4 we have found this issue while executing linaro_android_build_cmds.sh error: Exited sync due to gc errors https://groups.google.com/forum/#%21topic/repo-discuss/tnIWemm8M6k

I have been facing this issue for quite a while. Git needs to be updated to 1.7.2 or higher. I have raised an rt for the same.
I have been using -j1 as workaround.

Reason for this is the recent updates to repo tool.

Sorry, I didn't face such error form git, or use hackbox. But I guess what Vishal did - filed an RT ticket - is a right way to request git upgrade as suggested in other messages.
