VCL is unable to open video cam

I am running Linaro 12.09 Ubuntu desk top on ZedBoard. I can not get VLC to open the Creative webcam on capture mode Video for Linux2. I get this error message: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'v4l2//'.Check the log for details. I have no problem when I use the 12.04 Ubuntu on my linux workstation. Please let me know how to fix this problem. Where do I look to see the log details?
