Hi folks!
[ TL;DR - GSOC2016 is on - give us project ideas, links below! ]
I'm starting to put together Linaro's application for the 2016 iteration of Google's Summer of Code programme. We've been accepted as a mentoring organisation once before, in 2014, and I'm hoping that we'll be accepted again as a mentoring organisation for this year.
I've completed our application now; if you have any project ideas or would like to be a mentor then please add appropriate content to
https://wiki.linaro.org/SummerOfCode2016/ProjectIdeas
and/or
https://wiki.linaro.org/SummerOfCode2016
or talk to us if you need help. Right now we only have one concrete idea listed, which doesn't bode well. The deadline for the mentoring org application is 19th Feb, so we have a week.
We've had the results from Google this week, and I'm disappointed to say that we have *not* been accepted as a mentoring organisation for 2016.
I spoke to some of the Google folks about this to elicit feedback, and they were happy to oblige. Competition is very tight every year for spaces (180 orgs accepted this year, less than half those applying), and our ideas list this year was not strong enough in comparison to others. We've explicitly been invited to try again in future. I'll probably aim for next year again, but will need more help - talk to me if you're interested.
Cheers,
