I actually have an alternative patch - upstream asked me to move all the config table scanning into common code, so I have done that (but am not currently able to verify whether I've broken x86/ia64 or not). Would you be happy for me to simply put that patch into my tree instead?

Looking at the grub source it seems we should expect either of these to be set, internally in the kernel we actually check acpi20 first then fall back on acpi.
