Found by source inspection while chasing a hugepage locking bug, which I then could not explain by this. At first I thought this was very bad; then saw that all of the page translations that were not flushed would actually still point to the right pages afterwards, so harmless; then realized that I know nothing of how different architectures and models cache intermediate paging structures, so maybe it matters after all - particularly since the page table concerned is immediately freed. Much easier to fix than to think about. [PATCH] Revert "ALSA: hda: call runtime_allow() for all hda controllers"

This reverts commit 9a6418487b56 ("ALSA: hda: call runtime_allow() for all hda controllers"). The reverted patch already introduced some regressions on some machines: - on gemini-lake machines, the error of "azx_get_response timeout" happens in the hda driver. - on the machines with alc662 codec, the audio jack detection doesn't work anymore. The reason is that propagate_protected_usage() is not called in all hierarchy up. All the protected usage is incorrectly accumulated in the workload's parent. This means that siblings_low_usage is overestimated and effective protection underestimated. Even though it is transitional phenomenon (uncharge path does correct propagation and fixes the wrong children_low_usage), it can undermine the indended protection unexpectedly. We have noticed this problem while seeing a swap out in a descendant of a protected memcg (intermediate node) while the parent was conveniently under its protection limit and the memory pressure was external to that hierarchy. Michal has pinpointed this down to the wrong siblings_low_usage which led to the unwanted reclaim. The fix is simply updating children_low_usage in respective ancestors also in the charging path. [PATCH 4.14.y] ARM: 8702/1: head-common.S: Clear lr before jumping to start_kernel()

If CONFIG_DEBUG_LOCK_ALLOC=y, the kernel log is spammed with a few hundred identical messages: unwind: Unknown symbol address c0800300 unwind: Index not found c0800300 c0800300 is the return address from the last subroutine call (to __memzero()) in __mmap_switched(). Apparently having this address in the link register confuses the unwinder. To fix this, reset the link register to zero before jumping to start_kernel(). Without this, we can't tell during an unwind initiated from start_kernel() when to stop unwinding, which for the clang specific implementation of the arm frame pointer unwinder leads to dereferencing a garbage value, triggering an exception which has no fixup, triggering a panic, triggering an unwind, triggering an infinite loop that prevents booting. [PATCH v3: {linux-4.14.y} ] dm cache: submit writethrough writes in parallel to origin and cache

From: Mike Snitzer <snitzer(a)redhat.com> Discontinue issuing writethrough write IO in series to the origin and then cache. Use bio_clone_fast() to create a new origin clone bio that will be mapped to the origin device and then bio_chain() it to the bio that gets remapped to the cache device. The origin clone bio does _not_ have a copy of the per_bio_data -- as such check_if_tick_bio_needed() will not be called. The cache bio (parent bio) will not complete until the origin bio has completed -- this fulfills bio_clone_fast()'s requirements as well as the requirement to not complete the original IO until the write IO has completed to both the origin and cache device.
