Prepartory work to fix race between mount and device scan.
The patch is part of a larger series that would have to be backported completely, but the bug it fixes was triggered by fuzzing and I don't think it's that important for 4.18 stable. It would make more sense for some long-term branch like 4.14 though.

We don't really differentiate between stable and LTS trees w.r.t what patches we backport. I'll grab it for 4.18 as well if you don't have any objections.
