Hi all, I have a problem,can you please help me out? Building with the bare-metal none-elf- toolchain vs linux-gnu-

I'll be changing uefi-build.sh soon so that it uses the bare-metal toolchains. I haven't pushed the change yet because I'm still testing stuff. Once I make the change, you will need to have the bare-metal toolchain installed or you won't be able to build any more. So let me know if this will be a problem! I think I'll also put a check into the script to test if you actually have the toolchain on your path and give an error if not. At the moment, it will just try to build and fail later on. I am yet to find out if 14.03 works or not... Some background: OK, so I have to confess that I've been using the wrong toolchain for quite some time now. I already have the linux-gnu- toolchain installed and it's always worked, so I've been generally happy to keep using it. Whenever I get something new from ARM (UEFI, TF, ...), it usually tells me to use the bare-metal toolchain. I follow the instructions first time, then repeat with my "normal" toolchain. However, I've now come across a problem where building for an AArch64 platform with the linux-gnu- platform toolchain doesn't boot, whereas using the bare-metal toolchain is fine. Of course, I have never really known what the difference between the two is. Enter the toolchain FAQ: https://wiki.linaro.org/WorkingGroups/ToolChain/FAQ "The bare-metal ABI will assume a different C library (newlib for example) - or even no C library to the Linux ABI (which assumes glibc). Therefore, the compiler may make different function calls depending on what it believes is available above and beyond the Standard C library. Also the bare-metal ABI and Linux ABI for the 32-bit Instruction sets make different assumptions about the storage size of enums and wchar_t which you have to be careful of (not a complete list). And the difference between the 32-bit and 64-bit ABIs are also numerous and subtle (the obvious example being pointer sizes)." ... ooops!

Passing Non-contiguous memory map to kernel on ARMv8

Hello Olivier and Expert, I am trying to pass the non-contiguous physical memory map to kernel on ARMv8. Can the UEFI pass non-contiguous physical memory area to the kernel? I mean, Physical memory is divided into 0x80000000-0xFFFFFFFF(2GB) and 0x880000000- 0xFFFFFFFFF(30GB). If possible, Could you explain how to describe in UEFI? Otherwise, Could you let me know the reason? Thanks,

The GRUB multiboot support patch for aarch64(V2)

I always build a single UEFI binary for Foundation and FVP Base models by defining ARM_FOUNDATION_FVP, so I guess I am now going to have problems when I run on an AEMv8 4+4 model? What would setting cores to 8 and clusters to 2 do to the Foundation model? Would it work OK? Test result for linaro-edk2 tree V3

Hi guys, Today, I re-tested the linaro-edk2 tree with ARM Trusted Firmware. So I report it below: First of all, the repo and the branch status info is attached. (1)compile linaro-edk2 using the latest uefi-tools (ALLPASS) linaro-edk2/master(PASS) linaro-edk2/release-prep(PASS) linaro-edk2/release(PASS) (2)compile the latest ARM Trusted Firmware with linaro-edk2 binarise (ALLPASS) linaro-edk2/master(PASS) linaro-edk2/release-prep(PASS) linaro-edk2/release(PASS) -- useless, it can not work with ARM Trusted Firmware v0.3 (2)test all binaries linaro-edk2/master(FAIL) Boot successfully into uefi menu, but (i)infinite "Synchronous Exception: ", can not boot kernel from virtblockdevice (ii)the problems described in [Bug 1274126] still exist. ARM Trusted Firmware and UEFI for FVP models

Hello all, Just so you know, both ARM Trusted Firmware (TF) and UEFI have changed. The 13.03 release has TF code that is pre v0.3. Since v0.3, TF expects to load all other bootloader stages from a "Firmware Image Package" (aka FIP). This includes UEFI. Also, the upstream UEFI code for FVP has changed. It is no longer built to run from NOR flash at address zero, but instead, it runs from RAM. This means that you cannot use the lastest TF with an old UEFI binary and you cannot use the latest UEFI binary with the old TF. I've updated the CI job for FVP's TF so that it now builds UEFI, then builds TF, then build the FIP blob with the UEFI binary inside it. Currently the job builds from the release-prep branch of linaro-edk2.git. This actually contains the upstream Tianocore code at the moment, so it will be missing a lot of the features you might want, like ethernet, or Linaro's local-FDT mods. I'll run another job after release-prep has been updated. And I'll have to update the hwpack to include fip.bin and so on. When you launch the FVP model, you specify the bl1.bin as normal.
