Hi all,
I'm canvassing opinion on whether I should upgrade gateway to 12.10. The reason I want to do it is due to the problems I'm having getting the OpenStack instance properly talking to the Calxeda servers due to a known OpenStack bug, and the cx tools only work with 12.10 or later. Of all the servers we've got, gateway is the one that doesn't need to be like all the rest.
Thoughts?
The ssh-gateway is such a critical piece of infrastructure, that I'm hesitant to move it from an LTS. Of course, I'm not a big fan of installing extra tools like this cxmanage (or linaro-image-tools). This box now handles *all* incoming traffic into our lab (HTTP and SSH) so in my ideal world, I'd like this as simple as possible.
However, that doesn't solve any of your problems. First thing - can we try and push back on Calxeda to support 12.04. This stuff is supposed to be for the enterprise, so I don't see why they wouldn't support Ubuntu's current LTS.
If they won't support an LTS and the OpenStack bug is going to kill us, then maybe we install the tools on another physical host like "dispatcher01". I'm not a huge fan of that either, but it seems better than adding more packages ssh-gateway.
This sort of leads me to a last tangential comment: I think I'm going to add something to our salt infrastructure that denotes the purpose of a machine. ie - this way we could make some note that dispatcher01 is also the "cxmanage" system.
