Thanks very much for tidying this up for me. I like this much better than the hack with /dev/null (and with the tests passing).
There are a couple of issues, though, with mypy and the _is_color variable. Both to do with the Printer class, details below. The _is_color one is a showstopper, I'm afraid. --summary isn't working at all here.
