Nolibc is useful for selftests as the test programs can be very small, and compiled with just a kernel crosscompiler, without userspace support. Currently nolibc is only usable with kselftest.h, not the more convenient to use kselftest_harness.h This series provides this compatibility by adding new features to nolibc and removing the usage of problematic features from the harness.
The first half of the series are changes to the harness, the second one are for nolibc. Both parts are very independent and can go through different trees. The last patch is not meant to be applied and serves as test that everything works correctly.

Usage of longjmp() was added to ensure that teardown is always run in commit 63e6b2a42342 ("selftests/harness: Run TEARDOWN for ASSERT failures") However instead of calling longjmp() to the teardown handler it is easier to just call the teardown handler directly from __bail(). Any potential duplicate teardown invocations are harmless as the actual handler will only ever be executed once since commit fff37bd32c76 ("selftests/harness: Fix fixture teardown").
Additionally this removes a incompatibility with nolibc, which does not support setjmp()/longjmp().

In nolibc intmax_t and uintmax_t are always the same as (unsigned) long long/uint64_t as 128bit numbers are not supported. Even libcs that do support 128bit numbers often fix intmax_t to 64bit as it is used in ABIs and any change would break those.

It should always be 64bit. But not necessarily unsigned long long. In the case from the commit message it is unsigned long.
E.g. we could see new compilers decide that uintmax_t becomes 128-bit. Well, maybe in that case it will simply be a matter of updating the test case after all...
uintmax_t is only guaranteed to hold "any basic unsigned integer type supported by the implementation", while 128bit integers are not "basic" but "extended" and nolibc as implementation does not support them in the first place. Also uintmax_t is used in various ABIs which would get broken if its definition would change, one such example would be printf() itself.
The "correct" definition of uintmax_t constants would use UINTMAX_C(). I'm not sure if it's worth adding these macros.

Just thinking loud. While I understand the rationale behind this change, it somewhat contradicts the one on printf where we explicitly use it as an "unsigned long long" that's expected to be 64 bits:

Do we really have guarantees that a compiler will always declare it as a 64-bit or unsigned long long ?
It should always be 64bit. But not necessarily unsigned long long. In the case from the commit message it is unsigned long.
E.g. we could see new compilers decide that uintmax_t becomes 128-bit. Well, maybe in that case it will simply be a matter of updating the test case after all...
uintmax_t is only guaranteed to hold "any basic unsigned integer type supported by the implementation", while 128bit integers are not "basic" but "extended" and nolibc as implementation does not support them in the first place. Also uintmax_t is used in various ABIs which would get broken if its definition would change, one such example would be printf() itself.
The "correct" definition of uintmax_t constants would use UINTMAX_C(). I'm not sure if it's worth adding these macros.

nolibc's waitpid() now uses the waitid() syscall internally. This removes the original reasoning for the reverted commit as waitpid() is now available on all platforms and has an easier interface.

Introduce a getopt() implementation based on the one from musl. The only deviations are adaption to the kernel coding style and nolibc infrastructure and removal of multi-byte support.

If that's due to a limitation in nolibc, we might want to have a closer look at it before it starts to affect other areas. Also if in the future we have to add some str* dependencies here, it would be easier if we can simply include the file as well.

The include chain is important here. The user code includes "stdio.h", which at the very beginning includes errno.h->nolibc.h->getopt.h. Now getopt.h tries to use the definitions from stdio.h. However as stdio.h was the entrypoint and is not yet fully parsed, these definitions are not yet available.

Is there a particular reason why you had to define these here and include nolibc.h at the bottom instead of doing it the usual way with the include at the top ?
If that's due to a limitation in nolibc, we might want to have a closer look at it before it starts to affect other areas. Also if in the future we have to add some str* dependencies here, it would be easier if we can simply include the file as well.
Doing a regular #include "stdio.h" does fail with the following error:

The include chain is important here. The user code includes "stdio.h", which at the very beginning includes errno.h->nolibc.h->getopt.h. Now getopt.h tries to use the definitions from stdio.h. However as stdio.h was the entrypoint and is not yet fully parsed, these definitions are not yet available.
OK got it, the usual includes dependency mess when it comes to inline code (here it's static but it's the same) :-(
In the early days I had thought about placing everything in to nolibc.h and making the standard include files just stubs that would include it, but I didn't pursue that direction since I had not reached the point of the problems.
Maybe for the long term we'll have to reopen that reflexion. We could even have:
nolibc.h: #include "nolibc-types.h" #include "nolibc-stdio.h" #include "nolibc-stdlib.h" ... etc
and stdio.h, stdlib, etc: #include "nolibc.h"
That could be a clean and non-invasive change that would make sure we always include everything we need in the desired order. If we still end up with trouble due to some cross-references (since statics are painful for that), then it becomes possible to have extra -proto.h files to only declare types and prototypes, not inlines, and that will be included first.

Show how to use the kselftest harness together with nolibc. This just runs the existing harness selftest by crudely replacing the regular nolibc-test.c with the harness-selftest.c to get that wired up easily.
In the future nolibc-test can use the harness for itself.

Nolibc is useful for selftests as the test programs can be very small, and compiled with just a kernel crosscompiler, without userspace support. Currently nolibc is only usable with kselftest.h, not the more convenient to use kselftest_harness.h This series provides this compatibility by adding new features to nolibc and removing the usage of problematic features from the harness.
The first half of the series are changes to the harness, the second one are for nolibc. Both parts are very independent and can go through different trees. The last patch is not meant to be applied and serves as test that everything works correctly.
