[PATCH] net: tilegx: use correct timespec64 type

The conversion to the 64-bit time based ptp methods left two instances of 'struct timespec' in place. This is harmless because 64-bit architectures define timespec64 as timespec, and this driver is not used on 32-bit machines. However, using 'struct timespec64' directly is obviously the right thing to do, and will help us remove 'struct timespec' in the future. [PATCH] ia64: efi: use timespec64 for persistent clock

We have a generic read_persistent_clock64 interface now, and can change the ia64 implementation to provide that instead of read_persistent_clock. The main point of this is to avoid the use of struct timespec in the global efi.h, which would cause build errors as soon as we want to build a kernel without 'struct timespec' defined on 32-bit architectures. Aside from this, we get a little closer to removing the __weak read_persistent_clock() definition, which relies on converting all architectures to provide read_persistent_clock64 instead. [PATCH 00/21] Delete CURRENT_TIME and CURRENT_TIME_SEC macros

The series is aimed at getting rid of CURRENT_TIME and CURRENT_TIME_SEC macros. The macros are not y2038 safe. There is no plan to transition them into being y2038 safe. ktime_get_* api's can be used in their place. And, these are y2038 safe. All filesystem timestamps use current_fs_time() for the right granularity as mentioned in the respective commit texts of patches. This series also serves as a preparatory series to transition vfs to 64 bit timestamps as outlined here: https://lkml.org/lkml/2016/2/12/104 . As per Linus's suggestion in https://lkml.org/lkml/2016/5/24/663 , all the inode timestamp changes have been squashed into a single patch. Also, current_fs_time() now is used as a single generic filesystem timestamp api. Posting all patches together in a bigger series so that the big picture is clear. As per the suggestion in https://lwn.net/Articles/672598/ , CURRENT_TIME macro bug fixes are being handled in a series separate from transitioning vfs to use 64 bit timestamps. Some reviewers have requested not to change line wrapping only for the longer function call names, so checkpatch warnings for such cases are ignored in the patch series. [PATCH] ALSA: seq_timer: use monotonic times internally

The sequencer client manager reports timestamps in units of unsigned 32-bit seconds/nanoseconds, but that does not suffer from the y2038 overflow because it stores only the delta since the 'last_update' time was recorded. However, the use of the do_gettimeofday() function is problematic and we have to replace it to avoid the overflow on on 32-bit architectures. This uses 'struct timespec64' to record 'last_update', and changes the code to use monotonic timestamps that do not suffer from leap seconds and settimeofday updates. As a side-effect, the code can now use the timespec64_sub() helper and become more readable and also avoid a multiplication to convert from microseconds to nanoseconds. [PATCH] timer: avoid using timespec

The tstats_show() function prints a ktime_t variable by converting it to struct timespec first. The algorithm is ok, but we want to stop using timespec in general because of the 32-bit time_t overflow problem. This changes the code to use struct timespec64, without any functional change. [PATCH] time: avoid timespec in udelay_test

udelay_test_single() uses ktime_get_ts() to get two timespec values and calculate the difference between them, while udelay_test_show() uses the same to printk() the current monotonic time. Both of these are y2038 safe on all machines, but we want to get rid of struct timespec anyway, so this converts the code to use ktime_get_ns() and ktime_get_ts64() respectively. [PATCH] procfs: avoid 32-bit time_t in /proc/*/stat

/proc/stat shows (among lots of other things) the current boottime (i.e. number of seconds since boot). While a 32-bit number is sufficient for this particular case, we want to get rid of the 'struct timespec' suffers from a 32-bit overflow in 2038. This changes the code to use a struct timespec64, which is known to be safe in all cases. [PATCH] initramfs: use vfs_stat/lstat directly

sys_newlstat is a system call implementation that is meant for user space, and that copies kernel-internal data structure to the user format, which is not needed for in-kernel users. Further, as we rearrange the system call implementation so we can extend it with 64-bit time_t, the prototype for sys_newlstat changes. This changes the initramfs code to use vfs_lstat directly, to get it out of the way of the time_t changes, and make it slightly more efficient in the process. Along the same lines we also replace sys_stat and sys_stat64 with vfs_stat. [PATCH] staging: comedi: avoid using timeval

Comedi uses 32-bit seconds for its timestamps, on both 32-bit and 64-bit machines. For all I can tell, this was originally meant as a 'timespec', which would overflow in 2038 because of the use of a signed 'long' on 32-bit machines, but it is now used as an array of two unsigned 'lsampl_t' values in comedilib, which will only overflow in 2106, on both 32-bit and 64-bit machines. In an effort to get rid of all uses of 'struct timeval' in the kernel, this replaces the internal code with a call to ktime_get_real_ts64() and a comment at the location of the conversion. [PATCH] ata: fix "ering" sysfs time printing

The sysfs file for the libata error handling has multiple issues in the way it prints time stamps: * it prints a 9-digit nanosecond value using a %06lu format string, which drops some leading zeroes * it converts a 64-bit jiffes value to a timespec using jiffies_to_timespec(), which takes a 'long' argument, so the result is wrong after a jiffies overflow (49 days). * we try to avoid using timespec because that generally overflows in 2038, although this particular usage is ok. This replaces the jiffies_to_timespec call with an open-coded implementation that gets it right.
