Announcing the Linaro 2.6.35 "stable" kernel

There is now a "stable" 2.6.35-based Linaro kernel repository now available from: git://git.linaro.org/kernel/linux-linaro-2.6.35.git http://git.linaro.org/gitweb?p=kernel/linux-linaro-2.6.35.git;a=summary Unlike the linaro-next tree which will continue to evolve and be rebuilt with the merge of latest developments, the stable 2.6.35 repository won't be rebased and will only include bug fixes and material really considered stable and non intrusive from now on. This linaro-2.6.35 tree is currently made of: - The official 2.6.35 kernel from Linus of course; - The latest Linaro merge tagged linaro_merge_100811 previously announced here; - The upstream stable branch up to 2.6.35.3; - A fix for symbol offset breakage with separated debug in perf by Dave Martin; - The small change required to enable ASLR on PIE executable text segments. Git repository shuffling on git.linaro.org

As discussed between Loïc, John and I, some kernel repositoryes have been moved around on git.linaro.org to better reflect their usage, and to give them more "official" sounding names. Unless people really complain, I don't think this is worth adding backward compatibility symlinks at this point, as this would only clutter the namespace for little gain. It should be easy for people to simply edit their .git/config file within the clones of those repositories and adjust the affected URLs. For example: git.linaro.org/linux/arm_next.git is now git.linaro.org/kernel/linux-linaro-next.git John Rigby's Ubuntu packaging of the above are now found at: git://git.linaro.org/ubuntu/linux-linaro.git git://git.linaro.org/ubuntu/linux-meta-linaro.git I also created a people/ directory under which all personal trees can be accessed. Hence I'd ask those of you (amitarora, amitk, arnd, jcrigby, lool) to remove those symlinks from Git's root repo directory at your earliest convenience. Those personal repositories may now be accessed by adding "people/" in front of the path component of the Git URL. Nicolas

new more official sounding linux and u-boot git trees and u-boot release plans

I have moved the linux-linaro, linux-meta-linaro and u-boot-linaro git trees on git.linaro.org out from under my directory to their own directories to make it obvious that they are official trees and not my personal development trees. The lnux and linux meta trees are now: git://git.linaro.org/linux-linaro/linux-linaro.git and git://git.linaro.org/linux-linaro/linux-meta-linaro.git The u-boot tree is now: git://git.linaro.org/u-boot-linaro/u-boot-linaro-next.git As the -next implies, this tree has branches that get rebased periodically to current upstream plus extra patches. We will soon have a -stable tree based on a recent official upstream release. My preferred plan for our first -stable tree is for it to be based on the upcoming v2010.09 upstream release. The anticipated release date for v2010.09 is September 12, 2010. If this proves to be too late then we will base the first stable release on a v2010.09-rcN release or on v2010.06 plus cherry-picked patches. Questions/comments are welcome. Thanks, John

UI mockups look good. User testing should be finished early next week, and then frontend implementation will start. * arm-m-private-archive-hosting-infrastructure: Navigation work completed in vostok. Work to allow custom images. Basic preparation for implementing new views in vostok. Plugging away at work items. * arm-m-derived-archive-rebuild: Slow progress on the archive deletion due to detailed DB work, and slow turnaround for checking changes when doing DB work. * arm-m-image-building-tool: Blueprint's one remaining work item postponed. Blueprint now complete. * arm-m-image-building-console: Working on getting several branches landed. All security reviews complete, no surprises. New name for release to be chosen by beta time. Started talking about documentation. Postponed anything not necessary for open sourcing. * arm-m-automated-testing-framework: License approved. Added support for subcommands. Looking at test suites and benchmarks with eye to correctness on ARM and inclusion in the test framework. * arm-m-validation-dashboard: License approved. Working on getting changes landed. Will start new work items when this happens. * hardware-packs: New spec. https://wiki.linaro.org/Platform/UserPlatforms/Specs/10.11/HardwarePacks. Spec done, implementation to start next week. linux-meta-linaro pull request

Tim, By changing the name of the linaro linux meta package to have linaro at the end we can run the image builder with out modification. This patch also takes into account the flavour name changes in the latest linaro kernel pull request. Tim, Members of the Linaro team have requested that the string "linaro" be included in linaro kernel package names just before the flavour name. I found the simplest way to do that to just change the flavour names to linaro-omap and linaro-vexpress.
