Hi there,
Just a thought--- is it worth experimenting with running the kernel wg meeting on IRC instead of the conf call?
Personally, I find IRC meetings _much_ more digestible than conf calls (better "audio quality"; ability to scroll back when you don't hear / don't understand something etc.), but I don't know whether other people feel the same way -- that may just be my personal preference.
I agree that the audio quality is highly variable. For ex. Paul sounded like those talking humanoids from old sci-fi movies. But some other participants were clear and crisp. Go figure.
Connectivity issues forced me to use a cellphone, but glad to provide some vocal variety. ;-)
Comparing the dev platform group's weekly IRC meeting with the kernel conf call, I've found that the IRC format works quite a lot better for me, but again, that may just be my experience.
Some people are just terrible at written communication. So yes, this might not be universally appreciated.
I would be OK with trying it if there are no strong objections.
Well, as nico says there could be downsides ... unless your cellphone has an IRC client of course ;)
Heh! I was in an office with an IP-connected deskphone that had an Ethernet port. My laptop refused to work with that IP port, but worked just fine if I unplugged the IP-connected deskphone and plugged my laptop in instead. Which of course meant that the deskphone was not usable. So I had IRC connectivity, but had to use my cellphone.
I leave it up to you--- it was just a thought.
How about if we do next week's meetings via phone and I ask people what their thoughts are on IRC meetings?
Thanx, Paul
